Any Eagle Scouts?

My 15 year-old son has finished all the requirements and is waiting for approval of his Eagle project. As soon as he finishes the project he will be an Eagle Scout!
Over the course of his lifetime he has started many, many, things...karate, kick-boxing, baseball, football, band, theatre...sadly, like a lot of kids his interest wains after not too long a time and he quits.
His mother and I decided when he started in Tiger Cubs when he was in third grade that he would see it through to the end (Eagle). Only 2% of scouts go on to make Eagle.
He has dropped hints over the years that he would like to quit, but that was NOT an option.
He is fortunate to be in a very active troop and has gone camping once a month, every month, for the past few years! He has gone camping in Canada, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Louisiana, Florida, and of course, Texas.

We told him he could not get his driver's license until he finished his Eagle. He also does not get the totally restored, sweet looking 1965 F100 that we built for him
Now that it is almost finished, he told us that he is thankful that we wouldn't let him quit.
James

Usually guys that don't finish their Eagle kick themselves later. Your son still has a way to go. The "project" can be tough for some scouts. Setting a few carrots out can help a scout stay focused.

I barely got my Eagle before I turned 18, it was pretty close. I too wanted to quit but my father made me stick to it, glad he did. It has and will continue to open many doors for me in life. As for trips, I've hiked the Appalachian Trail from GA to NC, gone camping all over, snow sking and other things. Boy Scouts even got me a job as a secretary this past summer and a counselor the two summers before that. Best of all, I am the youngest of the three Eagle scouts in my family.

I'm and eagle scout, and this was advised to me when I was 15 as well. "Get your Eagle before you start driving, and before you start dating, because you won't have time for it otherwise." I didn't listen, and it was the day before my 18th birthday getting the paperwork turned in. My board of review was actually after my birthday. I had plenty of merit badges for palms, but couldn't get any because of the time requirement. The hardest part for me was sitting down and finding a project. Once I had the project, lining it up and coordinating everything was not hard at all. Pass on my best wishes. Believe me, the constant prodding by parents is appreciated in the end when I was able to put down Eagle Scout on my college and job applications. Good luck, and having Eagle Scout on a resume will give a step up over most folks.

My parents really pushed me to get my eagle scout, seemed like more of a hassel than it was worth when I was a teenager. Twenty years later I went to our old church house and there on the wall is my name among the eagle scouts. Brings a defenite sense of pride and accomplishment to mind. I still put it down as an accomplishment on job resumes.

My parents never had to push me, it was always a goal for myself. I really don't want to hijack the thread or start trouble by why don't parents show kids their options and encourage their desires instead of insisting what they do and do not accomplish?

In Canada & Britain (commonwealth countries), we are considered: "Queen Scouts"

Becoming an Eagle was always a goal of mine personally as well, but a little poking and prodding from my parents never hurt anything.

I'm an eagle scout as well. 3 silver palms.
In addition .. both of my brothers and my father made eagle scout as well.
Bwing the youngest, my motivation was being like the three before me.

I got my Eagle Scout badge. My dad pushed me for it, but as luck would have it, died shortly before I wound up getting it.

Life's little twists, eh?
