Drive train clunk

Hey guys, my 19 SD has a clunk in the drive train, when I let off the throttle and then hit the throttle again, there is a clunk, like a gear or something is trying to catch up with the rest of the drive train. Not sure if it is in the transmission or rear end, of course sound travels in the driveshaft. Also, there is a low scraping sound at low speeds, coming from the rear. Goes away at high speed. No howling noises, just a scrape sound.

I would check the U joints first. The clunk is a classic symptom of U joint wear.

Hi there! Feel free to send us a DM with your vehicle's VIN and mileage and we'd be happy to look into this for you.

Hello, No, I have not found out what the sounds are. I had a tech listen to it and he said not to worry about it. Truck runs fine, no issues.

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

LOL I will let you know if I figure it out. Going to have a buddy who is a ford super duty mechanic, owns his own shop, who is going to look at it in the next few days. I will let you know if he comes up with anything. It started in ours after our kid ran some trips for his transport business. Only hauled two vehicles a handful of times when his truck was down. Pretty strange sounds and feel.

The slip joint is dry and needs grease. This has been a well-known issue since the beginning of time.
Look me up here for a complete how-to.
Only use the Ford Teflon grease.
See thread #2 & #17.
