Glow plug codes issue - 7.3 Excursion

I replaced all glow plugs and glow plug module this year. Bought module from RiffRaff, OEM. Bought motor craft glow plug oem from O’Reilys. These codes still pop up. Only thing I didn’t do was valve cover gaskets, was planning to do that next when I do injectors in a couple of months.

When installed new glow plug module, a new code popped up ending with a C, “P0673-C”. I’m confused bc valve cover gasket seemed fine and all new glow plugs were installed. Installed glow plugs beginning of year and just now did glow plug module. Would this be a valve cover gasket issue? All my glow plugs read in spec doing the ohm test with a voltmeter touching the connector

I live in Atlanta and cold weather is around the corner. Still pretty warm out rn so truck turns on fine. Injectors sound fine too and truck runs smooth

What you guys think? I guess I wouldn’t know until I replace the valve cover gaskets huh?

My next question would be, when I do replace valve cover gaskets should I just get the harness? I see a lot of people say the gaskets are reusable. Or would it be a good idea to do both valve cover gasket and harness?

My 7.3 is very healthy and hasn’t seen a drop of oil. 310K

You're joking, right? "Cold weather". 35....for a day or two.

Seriously, it could be a number of things. What you need to keep in mind is that electrical issues, especially when a circuit is measuring resistance (also considered as the inverse of current draw) increases when temperatures and current rise. Testing an unloaded circuit when the circuit is cold with an ohm meter often will not show you a problem as there is virtually no current (amps) across the circuit thus, no load/heat. A proper test will include a voltage drop measurement but that takes time and disassembly as well as a lot of key cycles.

As for your question about the valve cover gasket or just the harness replacement; don't mess with only doing half of the circuit. If the female terminals in the harness connectors are causing the issue then the male terminals in the gaskets have been damaged and will accelerate the demise of the new harness terminals.

Did you check the harness terminals that plug into the GPM? If you see any of the cavities of the plug housing that look discolored or dark, you will need to address this. Once the flag terminals, particularly the female terminals, have overheated they will not maintain the required tension to carry a load to the glow plugs. Been there done that. Got the hat and the t-shirt.

Start with the green and black engine harness plugs which go into the glow plug module. If you find an issue like I did, keep looking. The under valve cover gaskets and harnesses looked good until I unplugged them, then I found an issue which I originally didn't see until I decided to just replace the harnesses. The newer Motorcraft CM4884 under valve cover harness will have a intermediate tab to help keep it in place. I still did the 50 cent mod, the quarter just has to be cut down more than with the old style...

You may need to pull the blue covers to take a closer look, but it's typically that big power source lug with the issue...

This is what I found when I unplugged the harness from the gasket which couldn't be seen until then...

The newer style harness plug where you can see that tab midway...

Harness with the 50 cent mod...

How did you fix this issue just in case I seem to have the same problem when I take another look?

I bought a complete new OEM engine harness from a ford dealership in Ohio. The cavities in my harness were melted. There are splice in harness repair parts available. My harness was just so ragged that I just bit the bullet and purchased one to fix all issues in one fell swoop.
