How is surface rust suppose to be treated before applying ? Should i rust inhibitor sealer or apply primer before putting down the bedliner coating ? I would think that a smoother surface wouldn't adhere to the coating as well

 

I put Herculiner on a used bed slide I bought. I wire wheeled it. No issues. Bought a Dewalt 9” angle grinder as my 4” grinder was not adequate for the job. Paid for itself on this project.

I used a wire wheel on a 4 inch grinder and went over the bed pretty quickly. It scuffed it up a little, perhaps not great. I cleaned it off with paint thinner. Then I put down a coat of that rustoleum bedliner sold at my local Walmart and HF. It went on pretty thin, and looked like it didnt adhere perfectly, but good enough i hope. A second coat was needed to cover it to look black. Now it looks good. I used 1/2 gallon, so will put another coat on in a year if needed...

last one i did, we cleaned the rust with a wire wheel. coated the area with rust reformer, than 3 coats of brush on bed liner, turned out pretty good,
