Headlights after lift

Ok, as fun as it is to blind the people who cut me off I am getting tired of blinding the good guys too.

I remember a post long ago where someone referenced a distance to park the truck away from a wall and then a height that the lights should be. No easy search feature here anymore so I can't seem to find that post.

Can anyone link that post or does anyone know what the proper height is for a given distance to re-aim these suckers??

Headlights after lift

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 05:22 PM (EST)]Heres what i could find....

Proper Headlight Aim is Important
At one time or another most of us have been blinded by the glare of oncoming headlights. You flash your high beams to signal the oncoming driver to dim his lights. He responds by turning on his high beams, indicating it was his low beams that had been blinding you. They were aimed too high.
Are you sure your headlights are not blinding others? Here, from G.E., is the recommended way to check headlight aim.

1Put your car on a 35-40 foot stretch of flat or evenly sloped pavement such as a driveway facing a wall or garage door.

2Shine your low beams on the door from 2 to 3 feet away and outline the bright spots on the door with a pencil or tape.

3Back the car to about 25 feet from the door. The top of the low beams should shine no higher than the top of the marks on the door or lower than the center of the marked circle.

If your vehicle has four headlights the center of the high beam (the inner or lower two lights) should align with the top of the low beam marks. If you have only two headlights, the high beams are automatically aimed when you aim the low beams.

ON EDIT: of course with a lift, probably none of the above apllies!

Thanks for that reply Rockwell! Instead of marking the spot where the beam is from 2-3 ft. away I will mark it about 4" lower and use that as the "stock" reference.

I try to turn my headlights off when behind people at stop lights to be nice, unless they cut me off to get there! One of the small things you have to remember when lifting a truck, puts the lights back on the road and keeps you from being a driving hazard.

Thanks!

Its just this kind of thought process thats gotta make ya love FTE!
Yep that would actually work, just make the mark lower however many inches you lifted...Pretty ingenious those darn yankees!
