6.4 Cat Converter
I understand what a catalytic converter does in a gas engine pretty well, but what is it doing for the 6.4 diesel emissions? Is it there to mainly to make heat for cleaning the DPF? When the engine goes into exhaust cleaning mode and all the overfueling is taking place is the Cat getting very hot? When the truck is running normal outside of the exhaust cleaning cycle is the Cat working to burn carbon before it gets to the DPF? I know Cataylic Converters were in Diesel exhaust systems before DPF's existed, so are they a major part of reducing emissions after the DPF has completed the cleaning cycle? Are they prone to clogging like the DPF? I'm trying to understand the 6.4 system. Thanks

If the truck is not deleted, can it smoke with the DPF in place? Is that a sign the DPF is clogged? Has anyone seen a 6.4 smoke white (not coolant) that still has a DPF? I always thought the DPF would prevent any smoke, and provide a blockage to keep the engine from running at all. Am I wrong?
