The original catalytic converter on my 1990 F350 7.5L plugged up so I had to remove it and just bought an aftermarket catalytic converter. On the old cat there were 2 pipes that come off the top of the cat. What are those? I didn't hook them up to anything when I put the new cat in since it doesn't have those connectors (magnaflow 94006). Just fabricated a connection flange from the old cat with a Y connector followed by the magnaflow cat and hooked it up to the header flange where the old cat used to connect and connected it all back into the exhaust system.
The more complete explanation is that the air pump delivers air to the cats under certain conditions like right after cold starts to help it heat up faster and burn off excess hydro carbons. Leaving those hoses disconnected won't have any effect on the way your engine runs so besides strapping the hoses up so they aren't rattling around under there you don't need to do anything further with them.
