Have a question about my coolant level. I am not leaking from anywhere but noticed a drop in my degas bottle today. Last week it was filled to min cold.
today it was in the 30s temp wise. I drove the truck about 25 mins and it never got hotter than 180 EOT. I dont believe the t-stat opened as i am running a 192. Could running the truck for 25 mins and not fully circulating the coolant cause this type of a drop? Truck runs normal and there are no leaks.
This happened to me for about 2 weeks after a coolant drain and fill I did. Eventually, after topping it off to the cold fill lower line, it stopped dropping.
Keep an eye on it, there are a few places you can lose coolant in the system. (Injectors, headgasket, etc)
if it doesn't settle at some point, you will want to do some further diagnosis.
white smoke, coolant smell from exhaust, coolant in oil, would start there if you are worried.
Best of luck to you
Yep, that's where it likes to live. Most of them are that way. Run it.
thanks for the bode of the confidence Cleatus! I think im gonna run it and get it hot. Then see where i stand. I am assuming some if it is due to the cold temps. Also had to adjust my lower rad hose as she wasn’t fully seated by water pump inlet

thanks! Will check all that too. I did a flush back in March but this is the first time Ive seen a noticeable drop. No white smoke or smell from exhaust

yeah just checked it- no coolant on dipstick. Doesnt smell like coolant when i smelled it. Will run it later today and check again
Like many other folks mine runs below the cold fill line. Leave it alone and keep checking. Assuming it stabilizes there you can be part of the club. We have T shirts.
I had a slow leak that was hard to find until I was able to see the heater hose connections at the heater core were wet. Turned out the 20 year old o-rings inside the connector were worn out and they were losing their seal.

How does one get said T-shirt? Will we also get a badge for our post banners on this forum?
My coolant level settles about 1/2" below the seam. Always has for the past 10 years of owning it. As others have said, just keep an eye on it and identify the "normal" level of your bottle.
Mine sits right below the seam too. Has since i owned it. I replaced the bottle too. I think it just pisses out the cap when higher. Wont budge from the " normal" position otherwise.
I run the warmer riff raff tstat for the 6 months of winter we get here. Really helps keep the heater and truck warm. No issues in summer with the warmer tstat, but it does run (eot) a little warmer. Id imagine the coolant does too. I can be flat out up a mountain grade towing in the peak pf summer and nothing bad happens ( the peak pf summer isnt that bad here).

Mine had a slow leak, that I never could find...
my mechanic found it when I had him install the new water pump, and radiator and other stuff.
the Cap over-flow rubber hose had a tiny pinhole in it... he saw it seeping because he had all of the plastic stuff on top off the truck.
