On the coolant bottle there's your MIN and MAX levels. I believe it states cold engine levels. I noticed mine was below the MIN level and waited until the motor was cold in the morning and filled it up to the MAX. Then after running it all day, I checked it the next morning and it was exactly where it was before I filled it the first time. So I ran the truck and got it good and warm and checked the level of coolant in the bottle and it was at MAX. I checked the oil and it didn't make any.
I can't see any coolant leaks anywhere. It's dry as a bone under the truck. Does the cap let coolant escape when the truck warms up?
I know where you're going here. I was doing the same thing a few months back. I had a new water pump and I'm thinking, WTF?
I saw someone else post a thread about this very issue, and a bunch of the guys chimed in and mentioned the same exact thing. Sometimes the coolant level shows lower than full...and you can drive it for a day and look at it again and it shows full. No coolant leaks.
The general consensus was..that the coolant just happens to rest at this level, for whatever reason.

Yup, I was one of those who chimed in with a "WTF???" and just accepted the fact that the truck likes it where it is. Mine rest just above the Min level.
It's gotta be some sort of black magic. It doesnt leak OUT, maybe theres an extra bladder somewhere down in the water jackets of the block that lets it hide out down there. I filled mine up with cement and still does it. ???

After letting my 7.3 idol for a while, I noticed some antifreeze on the driveway. I traced it back from the radiator area to some where back toward the Heater core, where I lost it.
It only drops a small amount in the tank in a 1000 miles. It still worries me. To cold to try and trace it down now, but it does have a leak. May try to run a pressure check this week.
