i have a 2004 fx4 s/c , a friend who was checking out my trcuk told me my windows were etched, try to find out more info on this is this a option or is someone blowing me smoke, i hadnt even noticed the numbers on all the windows till he told me, looked on the ford website couldnt find anything, thanks for the help
One of the Pittsburgh-area multi-locations dealerships does the window etching on all their new vehicles, then adds over $200 to the price as a dealer-installed option. Just one of the reasons I didn't buy my truck from them.
I have "theft prevention/loss recovery" numbers etched on EVERY piece of glass on my new 2004 F-150 Lariat Screw 4 x 2. My dealer etched these numbers on the glass, AFTER asking for my permission to do so. There is also a 1-800 phone number etched just below each of these numbers.
My dealer offered this optional "theft prevention/loss recovery" service to me AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. The program is underwritten by APCO, a fully owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, and my truck was registered with them by my dealer the day I picked it up.
As I understand it.....if my vehicle is stolen, I simply call the police and the 1-800 number given to me when the truck was registered. APCO will then put out their "APB" to body shops, scrap yards, wholesalers, etc., etc. making it VERY difficult for the theif to unload it. Also, from what I have been told.....a "chop" shop won't touch parts from an "etched glass" vehicle....and some insurance companies even offer discounts if you have etched glass in your vehicle.
