Thumbs down LMC side window glass

I bought a passenger side glass for my 53 and have decided not to install it.
The etched writing is on the outside of the window and reads backwards when you are outside of the truck.

I tried to razor off the writing, but it was a no go. I'll add it to my LMC trash pile along with the stamped POS turn signal bezels.

Lets hope Midfifty comes through for me.

P.S. Installing all of the window stuff is a lesson in patience. Maybe there is a trick that I am missing. When money permits I'd like to do a single pane, power conversion .

I guess everyone who is much into restoring an old vechicle has experienced what you are going through. Inferior repops are a major pain in the butt. I bought a set of those bezels you mentioned. Not from LMC, but they probably came from the same source. We wound up trashing them and just fixing the rust pit holes in the original ones I had. But its hard to restore these old trucks without buying some repops. Not everyone can afford N.O.S. Some you can't get for any price. I think one of the main functions of this site should be for us to warn people which repops are good and which are junk just to sell before we spend our money.

Since the door glass is flat, you don't have to buy it from an aftermarket supplier, because any autoglass shop can cut you a new one from glass stock.

Number Dummy is right and usually there won't be any etching to worry about. What you do have to watch our for is how they finish the edge of the glass, some places leave it rather rough, make sure they can smooth the edges. It wouldn't matter so much on something like the back glass where it is captured in rubber all the way around but on side glass the sides need to be smooth in the channel and the top you can see and feel when it is down so you want that to be smooth.

I had to order some new nylon rollers and some other stuff and figured that spending the $40 to support an F100 specific supplier and save me the gas and time of looking around was worth it. I have been told that the Mid fifty glass doesn't have the etching, I hope that is correct.

Nylon window rollers?

Which nylon rollers did you order, there are two different types.

BA-7023240-A .. Window Roller-Nylon / Fits: 1953/60 F100/1100 / 1953/58 passenger cars.

Green Sales Company has 8 of these. They are genuine Ford originals = 800-543-4959.

COAB-6423240-B .. Window Roller-Nylon / Fits: Passenger cars 1959/66 / 1961/66 F100/1100's.

Green Sales also has these.

I share the same frustration regarding inferior reproduction parts. I bought parking light assemblies for my 52 F-1 from Bob Drake and spent over 2 hours filing the housings to get them to fit properly. I was disappointed in the poor quality however I don't fault Bob Drake for it as I'm sure the stuff is made in China and we all know the cheap a$$ garbage that comes out of China! Had a similar problem with a V-8 emblem that mounts on the front of the hood on a 52 that I got from Dennis Carpenter. I eventual just took the original emblem and had it re-plated which was actually cheaper than the price I paid for the reproduction!

I picked up the repops from the Midfifty catalog.

They tell me that they are the ticket and engineered for my application - 53 F100. I'll post back an update.

I agree 100%....I had mine cut locally and I guess they use a bandsaw on the flat safety glass. It left a really rough edge and I asked them if it could be smoothed out and they sanded it but it's still not great. It only shows on the top edge of the door and back edge of the vent window but those are very noticeable areas when you stand beside the door. The shop I bought from did their own etching too with their company name and safety glass ratings. Usually the window is down enough you don't see it though.

AZ, was the problem that there was etching or that the etching was backwards? These windows are flat so they fit either door. If you are reading it backwards from the outside, I think you just need to change them from side to side. Jag

FYI, The original glass had Fomoco etching and since the glass was flat they etched all the glass the same and one part# to do either side, the same for the vent windows. So one side read correct and the other side was backwards. This is the way they come from the factory.

I've been using NOS parts wherever possible, and it's evident in my checking account . Thanks for the heads up on glass as I was going to order some soon.

That would work.

I ordered 1 glass panel to replace the passenger side.
I prefer to use a piece with no etching at all and there is no way I am going to disassemble the drivers door so that I can switch the panels. I'll work an hour of OT and pay the $40 bux.

I received my parts from Mid Fifty yesterday and was happy to find that the window glass has absolutely NO etching on it at all!

Hopefully I can get this installed this weekend.
