Hi, 2019 F250 XLT, 6.2L, with manual AC controls. With the temp control dial turned all the way to left (cold) position and the AC button off, the air coming out of the vent registers (seems same if floorboard is selected) feels very cold - like the AC is on. With the AC button on, the air feels just as cold. I've had this truck about 3 months, but seem to recall that previously when driving with the AC button off, the air coming out of the vent registers was ambient temperature.
So is the compressor on all the time? Am I misremembering the ambient air temperature with AC button off condition? What's the proper operation of the AC system?
The compressor clutch is definately engaged as I can't turn it by hand. I removed both the AC clutch relay power fuse and the AC clutch solenoid fuse, and that made no difference. Clutch remained engaged and system continued to blow cold air with the AC switch in the off position. Anything else that can be easily checked?
I was unable to find any additional troubleshooting info on diagnosing the issue, but assumed that the EM coil for the clutch had somehow failed. The obvious fix was to replace the compressor, so I took it to a shop. They confirmed that the coil had failed and recommended replacing the compressor. Pretty expensive, but it now works as it should.
Disappointing that the compressor only lasted four years and 85k miles.
