Anyone using Fluid Film for rust protection? How do you like it? I sprayed a section of the frame and some underbody tin about 3 days ago its still wet and loose and kinda messy to look at the appearance and wetness makes me think that the Fluid Film will simply wash off with slush snow and rain, however most of web research on Fluid Film is positive. What do the OBS Ford guys think of
Fluid Film?
in the rust wonderland in Canada, we like to use Rust Cure Formula 3000 from crappy tire. It stays in a state that allows it to creep into crevices.
One application is usually good for several years. The CDN military/navy use this product on their vehicles/ships so it passed their test reqs.
I had my 94 F150, 16 Sorento and 2010 Malibu treated with this product. They offer a decent warranty. https://corrosionfree.com/
I will see by next spring whether it was a good choice or not. I live in Northern Ontario Canada where rust is a major issue .
I’ve experimented a lot with various types of oils, and I continue to.
I favor a light oil (which ever is on sale) to soak into body seams, with Woolwax overall after. The Woolwax has held up the best to washing off. Year round winter driving.
I have used it on four different trucks and a 66 Galaxie and had very good results with it. First was was an 08 Ranger that rust had a good start on before I got it, after five years with annual applications it hasn't got any worse
If you're going to use it I would get a cheap tarp to park on at least four feet larger than whatever you're going to spray, wear something old you can throw away
It doesn't wash off quite as easy as you think, it takes a good degreaser and a pressure washer to get it completely off my creeper
I became a bit of a undercoating enthusiast after doing a bunch of rust repair on my 88. I too have tried Fluid Film, PFC, and Woolwax. I'm with JJF20, I use fluid film or PFC in the cavities and and then coat the entire bottom of the car with Woolwax. The Woolwax holds up very well. I have had it on the bottom of my wife's escape for several years, I did a light recoat after the first year and then have not had to reapply since. It has been ~3 years since i last coated it and it still looks great. Same with my truck but it does not see as much abuse as the escape during the winter. I do want to pick up some of the PB blaster stuff to try at some point.
