Please see image. Replaced gear box with blue top. Replaced high pressure hose. No leaks for several months. Now I see a leak after I cleaned the area. Looks to be on the pump fitting that the high pressure hose hooks to. Is there an oring there? Can I pull this fitting out and replace?
now whining or noise, just the leak from this fitting.
Cleaned the area and saw this an hour or so later. Leak has become progressively worse.
Purchased rebuild kit and there are 2 orings on this fitting. Replaced them and so far no leaks. Went ahead and ordered new ford power steering pump, pulley and low pressure line. Will be putting them in soon just in case for peace mind that the full system is new.
Glad you got it sorted. Will be nice to not have to worry about that for some years. How old was the pump?
*edit for question*
Also where did you get the rebuild kit?
When I was putting in the blue top, high pressure line, new pitman arm and return line filter, I bought the pump rebuild kit from rock auto. It was one of those just in case things. Sat on shelf for months and forgot about it. So happy I bought it as it came in handy. Do not know age of pump. But I’ve had the truck since 2017 and never replaced. It is a motorcraft though.
The one thing I learned best from this truck is when you have to replace 1 part of a system, the next weakest link in that system starts to show. did fuel pump then bowl leaked. New brake booster than MC couldn’t maintain the pressure. So now I try to rebuild everything in the same system. Cause it seems once the new part brings it back to original the old parts in the system show their wear. This power steering pump was the part I didn’t replace. But new one is coming Friday.
I also finally installed the moog steering damper/stabilizer. Feels great!
My kit and high side hose is from Edelmann, zero issues. Find a Magnefine inline filter for return side while open to keep system clean clean.
I put same filter in. Used motorcraft high side. The fitting that goes into the housing was leaking. In the 12 dollar seal kit, they have both of these orings. I pulled the high pressure hose, then used 24mm to remove fitting. Keep the fill cap on as It will start draining out slowly. I exchanged the orings put it back together. Refilled reservoir again. Started it up and turned the wheel hard over each way not allowing fluid to fall. Working good and best thing is no leaks.
How long do those Magnefine filters last on the power steering return line/hose that runs under the power steering pump?
I don’t know yet. But when I checked it after few months when replacing the oring, it looked good. But it’s new gearbox, flushed system with new fluid. So not much wear to filter yet I’m guessing.
but I bought a new OEM pump and diesel site’s filter and the DS filter is more than double the size. I’m planning on putting in the new PS pump and filter with the new low pressure hose soon
