I have a 2016 Lariat(3.5L Ecoboost) and had the first breakdown at 87,000 miles. On Thursday I started the truck in my garage. It felt really rough, like a cylinder or two wasn't firing. If i remember right the check engine light and a wrench popped up on the screen. Pushing on the gas pedal had no effect on RPM's, push it more than an inch or so and engine would die. Put truck in drive or reverse and leave it at idle speed and it would move. Called my local shop and they came and towed it in. Turns out I lost the throttle body, like everything else nowadays they are electronic.
Mechanic explained to me the failure mode of going to closed throttle. Remember about 10 years ago a Prius with a throttle stuck wide open racing down some freeway unable to stop? Throttle body failure. Apparently this is a reaction to that. So $325 later all is back to normal.
