My 2004 F-150 FX4 5.4L has a lower idle when in drive and stopped at a light, stop sign, etc... I took it to the dealership today. They said I need a new Throttle body. $607
Isn't this something that can be serviced? It's not like its broken, the truck runs OK, but the RPMs are around 500 instead of 700 like I'd expect. It doesn't die.. I was thinking of buying an aftermarket throttle body
I am not 100% positive, but that sounds really fishy. I know there is an idle control solenoid in the system as well that will cause your symptoms. I know this because I have had to replace it in my european cars allready. I would think if it was your throttle body, you would notice more performance loss and more problems; Also possibly a trouble code. I am interested in hearing some more opinions from anyone else. My biggest crutch is that I have never trusted dealerships. I would sooner go to a diagnostic shop where they are biased to brand of vehicles.
Talk to Mike Troyer at troyerperformance.com... he can help you diag it right...the F150 is a fly by wire system (means the computer actually gives it gas, you moving the pedal just tells it you want it to go)...because of this the throttle body needs to be calibrated to work correctly...there is spring tension rates and throttle stops to consider...my guess is the stealership was just gonna recal yours (all cleaned up)or a new one just to sell you a part...They're hurting bad right now so be extra careful...
