Fan control module questions

I wonder if I might get a bit of guidance here. I have a 1975 F250 project truck. For some time I have been looking for a method of getting a soft start for my electric fan system. I run a dual 12" fan system out of a 2000 ford contour, triggered by a bmw thermo switch that triggers relays. With both fans on high I draw 28 amps. From a cold jump to high power I get a 70amp spike. I came across a vid on youtube where the guy used a late model fan module w/o the PWM signal to get soft start. I'm wondering if this is internet bs? Here is the video:
The fan he is using is my fan system.
Thanks for any help you may offer.

Here's one solution. But it's not cheap.
