Dash pad replacement- cheap vs not

So, $100 vs $400, does it matter?

I’m thinking I’ll probably wrap the pad with the same faux leather I’ve used as my head liner and visor covers…

I had a Coverlay one and it was nice for the money though i never did get it to stay on real tight in the middle front. Maybe since old pad was so cracked but it always bothered me.
Bought one of the cheaper pad assy's and also for the money pretty nice. The ends do not drop down as far as original. Most people do not notice but of course I look right at it each time.
For what I spent on the above two a couple more $ and could/should have just got the top dog one.

I went the cheap route and bought a new dash pad on eBay for $114.
Looks nice. Its a big job. If there are other issues like a bad factory
radio speaker you want to replace this is the time to do it.

You can see on the end that it doesn't cover the hole in the dash on both ends and in the center.
I complained and they refunded my money.
Do I wish I had spent the $400 and bought a real nice one from Dennis Carpenter???
I never notice the imperfection myself.

The interior is looking better today and if you didn't know about
the dash pad's imperfection you might not even notice it.
If you're "restoring" your truck spend the extra money and buy the good one.

Ihad a few cracks in my OEM that was a red originally, but I was gonna cover it with a black by choice. I first put a black carpet like piece on the dash that covered from windshield rubber to the edge of the lip. I liked it, but the cracks showed. I then bought a molded rubbery like plastic overlay that was intended to be secured with clear silicone glue, but it fit so well just "snapping" in place, I never applied the silicone. I'm very pleased. It more than covers as far down as OEM did, It has a forward lip that drops down in front of the original pad too, hence why it snaps in place..

Below is just the molded cover, without the carpet like top cover. From AutoKrafters in Broadway, Va.

Ignor the fans, they are not "mounted", I just move them as / when desired. I've also cleaned up some wiring for my SkyFi XM dock station.

You may want to consider taking your original dash pad to a local auto upholsterer to get a quote on repairing and recovering yours. Mine was repaired and recovered and looks just like an orignal.

thanks!
im no wood artisan but i would seriously Balk at paying almost 400usd for a dashpad.
for that money i would recover my stock one with cheap vinyl or even leather OR
make my own ONE OF A KIND first out cheap pine and make matching door cards out of same pine.
-you could try and fail several times starting over with wood and still be half that 400usd.
THEn just when you get it right with pine, you could sell those woooden pine ones and UPGRADE to mahogoney and make some beautiful door cards and matching dashpad
-wood would double as rattleproof, quieter although more heavy
