i realized that it doesn't have the cooling lines that go from the transmission to the block. The transmission is a FMX 3 speed auto i believe. Is there a way to re route the cooling lines or should i just swap a c6 into there. If swapping the tranny is a better option what does that process look like. Any help is much appreciated in over my head a little bit.
Ive never seen a FMX transmission before. I do know that my c6 in my 70 f250 does have cooling lines that run to the radiator. Did the 360 engine you have already have a c6 on it? I dont know the lengths of each, but you might have to do some drive shaft work as well.
Click on the names and see the pics. For a '67 I think you should have a "Fordomatic", which was called the "Cruiseomatic" starting several model years earlier. Or a C6--also called a Cruiseomatic.
The earlier trans will have an aluminum bell and iron case, as will the FMX. See the id charts for bolt count on the pan.
The C6 will be one piece aluminum.
You said it's leaking at the rear main. Transmission fluid or engine oil or both?
Cooling lines for all three would go from the passenger side of the transmission to the bottom of the radiator.
Crawl under that thing and count the pan bolts.
14 bolt MX
17 bolt C6
If you do not have a trans cooler and those lines are plugged you may have damaged the output shaft bushings since the C4, C6, MX all use the return oil from the cooler as the rear lube.
It has 14 bolts. It leaks tranny fluid out of the bell housing. The cooling lines go from the transmission to the block. The 352 that I had in there before had 2 brass fittings that went into each side of the block.
Look at post #8 in this thread. Is that what you have? Aftermarket trans cooling kit 1965 f100 352fe - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)
That is an original cooler it is plumbed into the block and is a standalone water to oil cooler, it will not work without being connected correctly. You need to post some pictures of what you have. Hopefully your cooler lines are not connected directly to the block, if that is the case then the transmission is DOA.
Leaking fluid from the bellhousing is the converter seal in the pump housing.
