Im assuming the f150 is similar and I'm not on any other forums. I bought a salvage 04 mustang 15 years ago. 5 speed GT. Been great. Only had the one key. Key NEVER left the switch in that 15 years time. Lost it last week. It's my car. Not a customers.
Called ford and they said they can only go back 10 years. So no i cant take it to them with the title and get one. I tried 2 different ones. Tgey said they really couldn't do anything for me the car was too old. (They both suck to be honest) tgey said try a locksmith. I highly doubt that works. Lol. I can pick the ignition switch or drill it myself if i wanted. I do not care about locking doors and the driver door didn't lock anyway. The key never left the switch. I'm in no huge rush. I have several vehicles and i own a shop so if I can order a new pats reciever and switch with keys I can drill the lock out. Dont know how the pcm would deal with that though. A flip switch and push button starter would work too.
You can swap random parts, but if the computer and gauge cluster don’t like the signal received from the keys, you’re still stuck.
I doubt anything resembling a good locksmith is anywhere around here. The locksmith here refer people to us by saying "dont know anything about that there newfangled stuff".... 2 this month actually. we drill out and swap columns for the local locksmiths. They just bend out doors and hit unlock buttons and do more damage than needed. its the pats thats i dont like. The tumblers and such I could deal with quickly myself.
I did text the local locksmith though. But I know he can't do it. We changed it a tracker and a ranger switch this month for him.
Ford places (3 now) said they couldn't do anything. You would think if I hauled the car to them they could. They say not.
I may find the key. Idk. I never take keys out of anything unless a door dinger (or the 80s and prior buzzzzzz) gets on my nerves. I looked back on my security cams and I drove it home Tuesday. Didn't move it wed. Or thurs. And I got in it Friday morning and had no key. And nobody touched it. So I obviously took the key out myself. Idk. Could turn up. Lol. The hood is pinned and I can get it open. Driver door don't lock. So I can put a battery tender on it till I figure out what to do.
I was hoping for a "replace the key switch and wire aound pats" but my searching leads me to a thousand people trying to do so on mustangs and I haven't found one yet that accomplished it. Some say turn it off with a tuner but the key has to be on for obd2 communication. So that's out.
Best thing would be find the key but it may well have fell out and been mowed over or thrown away. Idk. Was just the key. No fob or anything. Lol
I am told the repair companys for pcms can do a pats delete mod . .
Another possible issue is my pcm is Bama tuned. Lol. I'm hoping the key turns up. I've read more and more threads via Google search where people are trying to do this for drag and track cars. I've still not found one where they accomplished it
I'll try my programmer on my v10. It's an 04. If I can program a new key then I can order a cylinder with keys and change it out. The video said 05 and up though
Go to the Dorman website. There are different part numbers for different years . Use the part finder.
You don't have the original key. It was lost. You will need to pick or drill out the cylinder.
You could use the pick tool, decode the ignition cylinder, then cut a new key. Use your SnapOn computer. First. Erase all keys. Then program the new keys you just cut.
