Ignition switch

I lost my keys the other day and come to find out it was the only set of keys to my 71 pickup. So I went down today and bought a new insert to go in figured it to be a 5 minute fix. But I need the old key to turn the switch in order to push the plunger in to take out the old one. The new key wont work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? 71 Half ton 4x4

The right locksmith can do that for you, they have the tool/key to release the switch so you can replace it.

Sometimes another similar key will work if you put it in the switch and wiggle it while you're turning it.

You can drill it out, but be careful.

Why not remove the old switch and replace it with a new one with the new key insert?

10-4 On replacing the switch. But remove the old one first to see what type you'll need. Theirs a few different one's or someone may have changed the OEM one. There's one that has round contacts pins & one with flat spade ones. This way you'll know which one you'll need.... I would think a locksmith would cost well over a 100 buck
