Have been browsing for days now and just don’t feel I have a good understanding of how to wire my new HEI distributor.
Truck details:
1984
F-250
351W
4-speed
I purchased the truck a few months ago and previous owner swapped the feedback carb and intake to an Edelbrock 750 CFM and a Performer intake, leaving the factory TFI distributor. I have replaced the carb with a 600 CFM Edelbrock and am now getting the ignition right to be able to control the vac advance on the carburetor etc. Have done a lot in the past couple months on this truck and this is the final step so excited to get it right!
Distributor has been dropped in but am struggling on how to get the 12 volts on crank and run that I need.
I did read a post saying to run a 12g wire from the positive side of the starter solenoid to a switch in the cab and then from the switch to the Bat side of the new HEI distributor, turn the switch on when starting/driving and off once parked. I have also read of splicing two wires together and then running a new 12g wire to the distributor but unsure which wires to use? Is there a single wire that will work?
Pics of truck and engine bay as she sits.
Forgive me if I butchered this post, I am an ER Doc by training and can put people back together again but trucks….I struggle.
There is a hot wire on your original coil. It is white/lightblue. Cut it, splice a wire on it if it's not long enough, and run it to the B+ terminal on your new HEI distrbutor. Done.

Mine is originally TFI not DS2 so my coil has a plug with 2 wires, one is green one is yellow or orange (ish) with what looks like blue strips on it….I see no white/light blue wire, pic below.
I believe the Y/B would be the hot wire.
Key on test with test light should light.
Now crank it should still have power.
This would go to the BAT of the HEI dist.
That Green wire would then go to the tach spade of the HEI if you have a tach.

Those instructions were for a TFI ignition system. That yellowish or orangeish wire IS the white/lightblue. Your truck is old and so is the wiring. That wire used to be white/lightblue hash.
