Excursion Rear Suspension Upgrade
Looking for opinions on what i should do with the rear end of my 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3l. I posted here as i feel alot of the opinions and options for what i am after would apply to the pick ups as well
I recently did a coil swap on my ex, but i have not changed the rear springs. I did swap to the newer axle. Donors rear springs were trash.
From hub to fender i am 24" all around. So a nice level look, but she drops a solid inch in the rear when i tow (8k tt). I dont like the look of this drop and makes the vehicle look overloaded (technically it is over weight by about 300kg or 650ish lbs with the tt and kids and wife and stuff and fuel, but who is counting or goes by the door sticker
). I do have a set of Trimbrens on there now, however i dont want them to be engaged when the vehicle is unloaded so the rear need still be lifted an inch. My excursion has an old vege conversion on it, so it has a second tank, which i use for diesel when i need ridiculous range. In the neighbourhood of 60 gallons of fuel i can take. This all said i really don't mind the level look. Probably not practical to keep as i do tow (its why i own the excursion).
So i need to do something to fix that and i have narrowed it to three options:
RAS
-easy to install, but basically the same price as springs.
-fixes wrap which i definitely still feel.
-supposity raises the vehicle about an inch.
MODDED B CODES
-I would buy new springs, and use the modding to adjust to taste. I'm not sure i want to necessarily add spring rate though, just lift (the Trimbrens would add spring rate for the TT).
-Should help with wrap as well.
-Im not sure ill get enough lift even after modding. I could shim the Timbrens down to get it close with the tt on but most modded b coil swapped excursions seem to sit pretty level (remember the added weight of the second fuel tank to add to the pain). I dont want to use the f350 rear block as that would worsen wrap and isnt a great fix IMO.
-If there is an option to delete the rear blocks and bolt the springs to the axle, this would be a great option IMO. I was looking at the Priate rear Procomp springs, but i think ill net too much lift sans block.
AIRBAGS
-would obviously allow the vehicle to be level with the TT but offers little else. Truck would be still level unloaded too which is cool.
-Will not fix wrap (big con here).
-I live in Canada and the stuff they put on roads will eventually mean the bags will leak.
-Probably make it in cab adjustable so this means air pump and hoses and just alot of added stuff to break. Popular option and maybe this a good solution. That said i have the Timbrens and really like them (no messing around, drop trailer on and go, survives winter well).
I want to stress that I have geared the suspension towards soft. The goal of the swap was to get that better ride from the coils, like a squishy caddy, not a firm towing vehicle (the bigger brakes and better turning radius is bonus). The Rancho 5000 shocks are just right for me, as its far from a firm ride. This is what I want so I understand that this is a subjective matter and open to criticism, but please understand as well that im after a specific ride (for a 9k lbs truck) and am dead set on that trajectory (squishy caddy ride). What I dont want is to spend the money and end up buying again. Buy once cry once.
Im really liking the sound of RAS if i were to make a decision now.
Pardon the steelies, i am waiting for a cheap set of rims and ill get new tires as well. I want these for winter as nice rims (hoping for a cheap set of 05+ harley rims or similar) will just get trashed. No worries about trashing the steelies. I might paint them white though.
Thoughts?

Shouldn't change much otherwise. No block should reduce wrap too.
Cheap as well!
Great suggestion!
There are advantages and disadvantages for each method of accomplishing what you are asking out of the Excursion.
so far, just a 4 horse stock trailer,
a Kia Amanti on a car hauler trailer,
and a Cargo Trailer loaded to about 7,000 lbs.
When I take the Toy Hauler out next time, I will make a test run locally with just the standard ball hitch and Friction style anti-sway bars.
it is 26 ft long....
the K1500 Suburban had to have the Equalizer bars on it, or the trailer got out of control fast.
the Suburban has coil springs front & rear.
the Excursion is Leaf Springs front and rear.
lots of difference there.
