Well I bought a "vented cap" for mine to replace the original. Parts store listed it as for a 64. Turns out it was a one way vented cap, let air in but not out. And on a hot day you could hear the tank popping due to expansion. I would pull the cap off and the pressure released would almost blow the cap out of my hand. I made it a habit to loosen the cap when I got out, until I learned on here how to do the hole modification.
Sounds like you found the one chineseum gas cap that would have actually passed a quality control test. I've not been so lucky (err, unlucky?) I suppose there are others out there like yours but suspect most are like the 3 or 4 I've gone thru since I've owned the truck. At least like you said there's a way to fix the "good" ones.
So, I bought one of the O'Reilly's parts that cpm_m4 listed and it didn't fit, either. I'm at a loss at to what frickin' gas cap will work for my rig. I'm attaching a couple of pictures of the fuel neck on my truck to see if anyone can perhaps identify what year this came off of. I'm tired of buying and buying these things.
That does not appear to be the correct filler neck. The PN for the originals was C1TZ-9034-A fits 61-66 F100/850. I do not believe these are repoped the 67-70"s are but there is something different about them. There are some used ones on E-bay.
On the original filler neck there is no step below where the cap goes on.

Sounds to me like your filler neck is bad and it is venting out under the gasket.
Here's a picture of an NOS one on the left and one from my 1966 F250 on the right. The taper is slightly different between them with the NOS one having a longer more gradual taper - and the one on the right has a flare at the bottom to help hold the hose and clamp.
That's strange. When I first installed my cap is was a little tight. Almost too tight. You could try giving a bit of gusto. Not too much. Now it feels perfect. Here are some pics of the dimensions of my filler neck.

your filler neck looks different than the others we are seeing in this thread...maybe its from an equivalent chevy or other model and thats why the cap doesnt fit?
Well, unless TA455HO is in the mood to maybe sell me one of his NOS filler necks (I cannot yet PM you, sir), it looks as though I may need to look into getting one for a 67-70 truck to switch in for the one I have. I have no idea how to even go about figuring out which one I have, especially if it's from a GM or whatever. I'm at a bit of a loss on this one.
Dude, thank you for the links to the filler necks. I really appreciate all of the assistance you guys are providing on here. I promise I'm not looking for anyone to do the "legwork" for me. I'm just on vacation right now, but keep checking in on this because I know my truck is sitting back at home without a gas cap and I really want to rectify that situation. I really am willing to do my own searching, but thank you again for giving me a great start on finding the correct part to fix this. I'll probably be ordering one of those provided by Azscawpion above and installing it in place of the one I currently have. I'll even be able to keep the cap I already bought as a backup, if I order one that already has the cap on it.
