I replaced my OE stainless still simple and cool looking gas cap when I first got my truck. Although I've never heard of this happening, I was scared that it would be too easy for someone to drive by my car, stop, and pour crap into the tank. or just flat out steal gas.
I put on a stainless steel locking Stant cap. That rubber seal is a POS. It cracks after a year or so and gas leaks out when I turn the corner.
Anyone find a better locking cap? I'm thinking of putting the OE back on just so I can keep the gas in the tank.
I took my locking cap off. It annoyed me having to unlock it all the time.
I found a odd problem though, when I bought a new cap from oreillys, I had to buy one for a dentside truck. The one they list for a bump doesn't fit. Anyone else have that problem?

I just bought a replacement for my LWB 1970....and it wont turn and catch to close
Went to my local Star Auto Parts and ordered a generic locking cap for a 67.
Worked great so far. Unlocking can be annoying, but I would much rather unlock
the cap every time than have someone steal gas / pour something in the tank
just once. Southern CA is basically Mexico. Stealing of gas / vandalizing vehicles /
leaving you vehicle on blocks isn't as uncommon as it should be. A local U-Haul had
to start parking there trucks in garages because every once in a while people would
come by and stab a hole in the gas tanks and get away with 8 U-Hauls worth of gas.
Ruthless. One time they were stealing gas and smoking something and ended up starting
a huge fire and nearly burning down a lawn mower repair shop a buddy of mine works
at. Ridiculous. I would imagine if I lived away from the city, it wouldn't be so much
of an issue. Someone stole the battery off our work trailer just not too long ago, and
we were doing a job in LA and someone punched through the glass window and stole
out navigation divide / TomTom and left. We were away from the truck for literally
5-10 minutes. Crazy...
