Anyone ever tried to install one of these to accurately see how much you have used in your fresh water tank? Seemed like an awesome idea, however, I have tried 3 different flow meters and none can detect the water going through. If I remove the top fitting and run the water straight on the ground, seems to work. I have meter number 4 coming in the mail today. Maybe that one will work. I have my doubts:
Your set up is creating "back pressure" at the meter. That explains why it registers with a free flowing stream.
An old fashioned water meter with an impeller that turns (regardless of the back pressure) should give you a more accurate reading.
Positive displacement, rotary piston should work for your application.
After some more investigating, I plugged the inlet on that filter and turned on my pump. I still have water in all faucets. Hmmmmmmm. No idea how they plumbed that filter, but, now I know I need to install the meter right after the pump....More to follow once I get it installed.
Follow up: I moved the meter to directly after the water pump. Works fine now. The meter I used has WiFi capability and readings are captured through a hub. It works great and now I need to test the accuracy. This is a great option if you do not want to go through the hassle of installing the high dollar more accurate tank monitor on your tank. Cheers!

I use that style water gauge when filling water bladder so not to over fill the bladder (60 gallon). They have always been fairly accurate for that task.
My 70 gallon fresh water tank can be viewd from the basement just by sliding a door section to give easy viewing of fill level and misc water lines/ pump.
It's good to know you know the output but if you do not know the amount you are actually holding, what good is it? If you have ever owned an RV for awhile, you know not to trust the factory specs.

Yeah my tank is under the floor over the back axle. I would have to cut the floor to get to it. I was going to install the high dollar tank sensors, but, I'd have to cut the skirting under the RV and prefer not to do that. This method seems to be fine. Only issue is if I want to rest the meter, I have to physically do that on the meter and that requires removing a panel. I may just leave the panel off, or move the meter closer to direct access.

I fill the tank till it comes out the overflow. 70 gallons. I just wanted to know exactly what's left. I don't want the boss to run out of water in the middle of a shower.

Under those circumstances not a bad idea of keeping track of the consumption of fresh water from tank.
This is an interesting idea and I commend you for your out of the box thinking. I paid up for the SeeLevel system before prices went out of control on everything. I hated the OEM level monitoring in our two previous trailers and was not going to deal with that again. It works quite well, but still has it's inherent flaws.

I would still like to install that system on my waste tanks. Especially the black tank....
Mine is 70 gals and the gauge sits on empty after the 2nd night of boondocking. I'm going to keep track when the gauge changes and how many gallons we have used/have left. I know we have went 4 days without going empty, but we were careful with our usage. I bring a bulk tank when I know I have a place to grab water. At a NASCAR race they have a dude that goes around and cleans tanks and fills your fresh. At a premium price though. No place to get water unless you go into town. I don't know why they can't install a decent gauge in today's RV's. So dumb with so many complaints. And no access to any tanks unless you remove the skirting. DUMB. Especially when you pay over $100k new price. Ok, I'll quit but had to vent a little.....
