I have found and fixed it!!! A extra thrust bearing was missing, complete oversight and I felt stupid.

We now have a spinning 4th without third gear travelling back and forth - fourth gear spins without jamming

Moderators, his post is a serious breach of forum protocol. Two reasons:

1) He came back and updated the thread with the final fix. Normal procedure is to leave us all hanging.

2) Furthermore, he confessed he was responsible for the problem. Normal procedure is to blame somebody else, typically a previous owner.
