A friend decided to change direction with his project and sold me a brand-new Edelbrock RPM Power Package top-end kit (as shown in the image) for $3,000. I couldn't pass up such a great deal, especially since I’m rebuilding a 460 engine for my truck this winter, and this kit will be used on the engine. I'll be using the truck frequently, including occasional out-of-state trips. Given that I'm not aiming for a racing setup, are there specific pistons and rods you would recommend, or should any standard piston & rod kit work? I should mention that I have a Holley Sniper 2 efi kit that is going on it too.
Just trying to get some ideas from experience builders on what route you would take.
are the current rods ok ,if so have them reconditioned at the shop build the short block .what are the chamber sizes on the heads ? how thick of head gasket you using ? is the block getting decked ? you need to know all your volume numbers to figure out your static compressions to see what pistons get you ,your desired static compression ratio .then figure out your dynamic compression ratio using the cam timing events .91 octane is hard to find at every gas station .Aluminum heads can help lower the thermo compression by 1 whole compression point .have your engine builder select the best pistons to meet your needs
