Power window switch locking the doors!

Well this is odd. 2002 Econoline 5.4. When I attempt to roll up or down the passenger window from the driver's side, every lock on every door in the van is activated. What is even more weird is that the window still works. If I attempt to roll passenger window down, it will go down but all the locks lock or unlock as well. Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this? I took the switch out and cleaned it. I also inspected wires at the drivers master switch.

Did any switch get wet?

How’s the wiring in the hinge area? Can you pull back the rubber sleeve to see if insulation is peeling off the wires?

That is unusual... normally when two systems interact like that, it's because two wires have shorted together but that doesn't seem likely in this case.

Both systems are reversing motors which, with the switches in the unactuated position, have both sides of the motor connected to ground. Each button disconnects the ground from one end of the motor(s) and connects that motor lead to power. Which wire gets connected to hot determines the direction of motor rotation.

Because all of the motor wires are grounded, one would think that connecting power (even from the other system) would blow a fuse. Are you sure that there's not something in the window switch that is actuating the lock switch?

I've attached some wiring diagrams and the connector pinout that might help with troubleshooting.

Let us know the outcome.

Thank you both for the input! Thank you Etinpa for the wiring diagrams!! I appreciate the help! So, I haven't had a lot of time to invest in actually repairing the problem, but it is temporarily fixed. The issue was found in the black plastic master switch block, if that is what it is called. The black plastic piece that the switches plug into, and the wires connect into underneath. The wire going into #8 ( circled in blue below) was loose. From what I can tell it has something to do with the wire at #2 circled in yellow, but I could be wrong? The issue was that when I was attempting to roll up pass window, it would unlock all doors. I jiggled the wire around at number 8 and it eventually stopped unlocking the doors. I need to figure out how to get that connector out of the black plastic block, but will have to wait until I have more time. Still confused as to what is the actual problem. Thanks for the input!

The wire (actually pin) numbers you mentioned are associated with the functions you mentioned (if you believe the connector drawing). According to that Pin 8 is hot on passenger window up and making pin 2 hot unlocks the doors. As I described above, when the switches are not actuated both of these pins are connected to ground. I would think if somehow pin 8 got connected to pin 2 during window up, pin 2 would still be grounded through the door lock switch and I would expect a fuse to blow.

I'm still of the opinion there's something more going on inside the switch.

Note that above I said "if you believe the connector drawing". The connector drawing identifies pin 8 as getting power for passenger window up. That makes sense for what you've found but, if you follow the wiring diagram, pin 8 would get power on passenger window down. It's not the first time I found ambiguities in Ford wiring diagrams.

Good luck!
