My passenger can't operate their windows, but i can from the master switch. I've hit the window lock a number of times and they still can't operate them.
I'm thinking that the lock switch is bad. I picked one up at the JY, but the cover is a different color than my interior by a few shades of tan. The switch module is plastic welded into the cover.
I'd like to be able to take the module out, and put it in my existing cover, or be able to disable the locking switch that is currently there so that the passengers can open their windows.
First off...is it possible to bypass the switch and unlock the windows? This would be the ideal fix, as my kids are all teenagers and I don't have a need to lock their windows.
Second, how difficult to you think it will be to remove the master switch from the JY part and epoxy it into the existing cover?
I haven't seen any of these that were actually plastic welded in place, all the Ford window switches I've seen have just been snapped in to the trim piece. I'd suspect that you could swap them, but I don't have the advantage you do of actually having the part in my hands.
That being said, I would be surprised if the switch is actually the problem, especially if it does not work to raise or lower the window. Often when a rocker switch fails, it will be just one of the throws. I'd be more suspect of a broken wire between the switch and the power window motor.
I would likewise doubt that it's related to the window lock switch, but it's not completely clear to me if the rear windows work from the door switches or if the problem is only the front passenger switch.

Reason: Requested clarification on the rear seat switches.

None of the door switches work for the windows, but they do for the door locks. The master switch is the only way to lower the windows, which is why I think it's the window lock switch.
I took a look at the wiring diagram for a 1996 Explorer (assuming that's the year you have). If the Red/Light Blue wire were broken between the master power window switch and the cabin, that would explain the issue you are experiencing. If you were to take a passenger power window switch loose and check for continuity from pin 20 of the master window switch connector (for the Red/Light Blue wire) and pin 4 of any of the passenger switches (also Red/Light Blue) you should be able to confirm this wire is broken.
did you find a broken wire or a different fix? i have exact same issue on a 200 explorer and have seen broken wires in the door jam, didnt know if that is where i should start looking? thanks,
