Looking to upgrade to a PSD and have found a truck I really like. Only reservation is the Long Bed. I'd like to hear from owners on the plus side of owning one. I know parking is an issue but I could use the exercise parking at the back of lots
Do they tow and ride better?
I would take advantage of the extra space to put in a tool box with a transfer flow fual tank for extra distance. I currently tow a bumper pull trailer and a boat.
Any serious cons to owning one? Would you buy a long bed again?
We just picked up a SuperCab + 8ft, and that is ideal for us, or at least the best compromise between all the options.
My better half felt the CrewCab + 8ft was just a bit too much truck (too long), otherwise I'd have likely preferred that mainly because of the bigger tank.
I would never, ever buy a full-size truck WITHOUT an 8ft bed: the bed is the truck's MAIN feature, IMO. So getting anything less than the longest bed is a complete wasted opportunity. But that's just for what we need the truck for: hauling stuff in the back. YMMV!

I like mine. I have the 360* cameras that makes parking fairly easy with some patience and practice. You'll love/hate the 48 gallon fuel tank. Mine is a 34 gallon and cost $100 to fill from empty. I was always taught the longer the wheelbase the better the ride.
I just hauled some 12ft and 16ft cedar 2x8s in my 8ft bed. Would have been real sketchy with a 6ft bed. Long bed gets 48 gallon tank vs. short bed 34 gallon tank. A longer wheelbase will always tow better.
Long bed truck does ride better, and towing a 5th wheel you have no issues with the trailer interfering with the cab in tight turns.
Plus, on mine, I have a bed mounted aux tank, and still have more bed length behind that then you would get in a short bed.
Here is my crew cab long bed with a tiny 42'6" trailer behind it, went down the highway so nice, it was great!
I just went from ‘15 CC SRW SB to a ‘23 CC SRW LB. The ride quality is light years better. Haven’t towed my 38’ GN yet, but I’m certain it will be much better. For starters, I will be able to go beyond 90° with the trailer if needed without the trailer hitting the cab of the truck. With the SB I could only go about 80° before the trailer would almost touch the cab. Also, being able to slide a full sheet of plywood or drywall into the bed with room to spare is awesome. I was previously a die hard SB fan…not anymore.

I went from a short bed to a long bed 2 years ago. Never going back.
While it is bigger and, therefore, takes more room to park, it really hasn't been a problem.
It rides better empty and 100% better when towing my 15,000 fiver (along with air bags and a Reese Goosebox).
Pluses - no more worry about whether the campers is going to hit the cab; bigger fuel tank; better ride (empty or towing), more cargo carrying capacity.
I completely forgot about the 25 gallon fuel tank to 48 gallon. As stated, that is a HUGE upgrade in my opinion. When I got a my truck a few weeks ago, I had to drive it from Colorado Springs back to Hunstville, AL. The first time I stopped to fill it up it showed 999 MTE. I was like WTF!
I have always had long beds and love them- always hauling sheet rock and such.
As I have gotten older I don’t do that type of work anymore so it is not as critical.
I was apprehensive with my current truck having a shorter bed (22 F350 CCSB 7.3 Platinum) but I have been pleasantly surprised with it.
Ride quality is good and it tows our travel trailer (Outdoors RV 24RLS) very nicely.
I do miss the 48 gallon tank though. Nice to only fill up twice a month.
A short bed is typically going to have a slightly higher tow rating due to it being a few hundred pounds lighter.
I’ve had two long beds now and will never go back to short. You get used to driving and parking quick. To the point you’ll never notice. The only difference will be that you’ll wonder why you ever had short beds to begin with.
I was coming from a 5.5' bed in my F150 so having the "short" bed seems more than enough for my needs. I would have liked the long bed but I wouldn't be able to fit it many places I go.
