Now that is a "problem"... I find myself parking way out back and taking 2 parking places all the time... Sometimes with my camper on 4 parking places...
You mean like this? It wasn’t busy and I did ask an attendant if I could park there. Buc-ees gas station in Ky.
With the wait times just to get an appointment for repairs and waiting for the repair,I would rather have a second vehicle. There is also waiting for the parts.
Of course. I'd like to have 4-5 vehicles myself for the convenience.
I do understand why there is a trend toward shorter bed trucks though as others have mentioned. Trucks are so expensive no 'n' days that it doesn't make financial sense for most people to have a $60k for truck things and another smaller vehicle for other things. Better to have a truck that is a jack of all trades for most people, and that typically means it being a master of none.
That is a vicious cycle that allows Ford and other makers to jack up the prices, when the customer says "aw shucks, we can only buy one so might as well spend some money to get comfortable/treat ourselves and pay what they ask".
I bought an XL for truck things and the savings from a King Ranch or Platinum is enough for me to buy a whole other vehicle. I much prefer my mid size SUV for carrying the family around and daily things, much more comfortable, less cost per mile, and far easier to deal with in town than an unloaded CCLB SD. My butt isn't so sensitive as to require cooled/heated/massaging seats so the XL seats suit me just fine, and the other gadgets don't help me do my job any better than I already can.
That would be a firm NO... I have gone through my whole life thinking "outside of the box"... So, I am used to the "putdowns" I usually get, and I just keep going, living my life the way I think it should be lived... I also don't expect others to think the same way.... I was just stating my opinion... Don't others also think what happened to this "name-change" of how these trucks are named after 100 years, is just a marketing tool...??? Probably not...

I often do the same but around here parking spots are usually wide enough to fit, even with our camper.

Just because someone decides to buy one nice vehicle verses two lesser vehicles doesn’t make them pushovers willing to pay whatever to a dealer. You are making up some fake person to project your feeling of superiority.
And regardless, you could say the same thing about your strategy. Ford and other makers keep cramming in more useless features to jack up the prices on the lower trims because they know that people are going to buy multiple lower trim vehicles and will pay the prices for it. Plenty of people around these forums complaining you can’t get manual windows anymore, getting a 7.3 in an xl is an insane $10k price increase because they tack on 4x4 and stx package. Because they know people will pay it or move up to an xlt to get the 7.3.
The difference between an xl equipped with a 7.3 and a lariat with a 7.3 is only around $6k. You’re not getting a reliable car as a 2nd vehicle for that price.

Yes, "fit" IS, the right word... BUT, wait a minute... If there was a vehicle parked beside you both sides... Well, IMO everyone would be better served as far as getting in and out of their vehicles, if you parked in the middle of two parking places... now you would have "only" taken up 2 parking spots, IMO, instead of making 3. parking places, uncomfortably hard to get in or out of the vehicles.. JMO as I see it... That is thinking outside of the box, which most people would NOT see... IMO...
EDIT; and... Here we are... a can't win situation. Taking up 2 spaces is an automatic "A" hole move, Parking between 2 other vehicles making everyone's ingress and egress of their vehicles a beech... Thinking outside of the box says just take 2 spaces... it's a win for everyone... IMO, It's just is not looked on as a positive move...

No one is forcing one to get the 7.3. The 6.8 is for the most part the same engine and we have not heard any bad things about that motor any more more so than the known 7.3 problems, or the 10r100 transmission that are used in mostly fleet applications. the 7.3 has been priced walled so your "need" for the 7.3 walks right into Ford's trap.

Ford knows people will say this, that's why they made the 7.3 off limits to the budget minded buyers and required the new tech-laden STX package in XL to get the 7.3. If you compare an XL 6.8 that can do 95% what a Platinum or KR with a 7.3 can do, that's where the difference really stands out.
At the end of the day the SDs are not ideal daily vehicles, I would much rather drive a lighter, more passenger focused vehicle when I'm only driving passengers around. If you want to solo commute to work hours a day or drive the kids to soccer practice in a 7.3 SD, that's your right, I choose not to drive a 22 ft long 7200lb truck if I just need to take the family to picnics

Have you ever measured the open doors of a modern super duty and compared them to the wingspan of other vehicles? Everyone might as well take two spots to make it easier on everyone...
IF there were a vehicle on both sides of the truck when I came out of the store that day, and they didn't follow standard urinal protocol by leaving an empty spot on both sides of THEIR vehicle, then I would have wondered why they didn't park in one of the other 20 empty spots that day...
My first few trucks were single cab and long bed: 79 F150, 88 F150 and 92 F150. First SD was single cab long bed as well: 2005 SD.
Got my first super cab with short bed in '11 a F150 ecoboost. Got my first crew cab with short bed in '13 a F150 KR. In '15 I went to SD's with short beds, ('15, 16, 17, and now 20) I find they work good. I can drop the tailgate and haul 8' lumber if need. I have room for a toolbox and tow goosenecks and a fiver with it and not bad to park
If I ever go to a Dually I will go with an 8' bed because that truck will be to tow a 40' toy hauler and I want room for a toolbox and aux fuel tank

Better to be thought an a hole than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Keep in mind the difference between a long and short bed is about 15”. That’s it. Does it improve the ride- I’m sure but it’s splitting hairs at that point. Is it hard to park, yep but you get more bed space. Bigger turn radius with a 5th wheel- sure. Resale would be the one question the OP might consider. Depends on location. Some areas you can’t hardly give away a LWB. Other areas it’s the opposite.
