Too many people get hung up on casting numbers when in many cases they are meaningless, at least for the information people insist on attributing to them. D1VE does not mean it is a Lincoln engine. The V in the 3rd character spot only means Lincoln Division was responsible for the engineering on the part, and the D1 shows that engineering was done in 1971, not that is was made or cast in that year. It is an engineering identification number, not a part number. E does not mean "Engine", it identifies Engine Engineering Group in the Engineering number. It most certainly does not mean "Lincoln Engine". D1VE blocks were used for many years in every model car and truck that the engine was an option available for, in both 429 and 460 displacements. The only difference is the rotating assembly, which is interchangeable in the same block. If you want to know the age of the part, you need to look for the date code cast into the part, usually found near the engineering number and resembles a screwed on tag.
