Nah - it's in the settings, just like resetting the oil life monitor. It tracks a combo of the running time and mileage - it's not a real air quality monitor. You can just reset it in the vehicle settings.
After pulling mine IT needed it badly, the dust and dirt were horrible, I had to actually vacuum out the box with a shop vac after the old filter was removed. I will never second guess that warning.
Heck, at least yours works.
Filter on mine was almost totally blocked, and the monitor still said all was okay.
Either your air box has a leak and is sucking in unfiltered air, the gauge is defective or the filter "looks dirty" but still has enough clean pleats to breath properly.

No, was so blocked with dirt that the pcm thought the MAP sensor was not in range, turned out to be a clogged up air filter, or more accurately, the pre-filter.
Took the pre-filter out, cleaned it and reinstalled it and all was well.
