On the 2017+ 6.2 airfilters the bottom of the filter base has a couple plastic tabs that come out on the one side. Do these need to be facing a certain way or does it only matter that the two round guides are facing down? The filter fits the same way when they are facing opposite sides so I can't figure out why the tabs are there.
/also, how long are you guys going on filter changes? I usually go 12k on the engine filter and around 15k on cabin filter but the engine filter was fairly clean at 12k. Manual says 30k under normal conditions which I think is pretty excessive, they are spot on for changing the cabil filter at 15k because they are very dirty by then.
I can’t explain the tabs. I installed a new engine air filter at 20K miles using the same orientation as the original.
30K miles for the engine filter is subjectively too long for me as well. I changed both the engine- and cabin air filters at 20K miles.

Which way were the tabs facing? I never even thought to look when I removed mine but from the dirt trail on the filter it appeared the tabs were pointing towards the passenger side fender.
I have to say I never paid attention to which way the tabs were facing when I removed the original air filter. Will have to look and see which way I put it back in.
the air filter house may have been designed to fit that air filter. Maybe is some other application that tab has a function. Every time I change my filter I forget to pay attention to which way it came out and go through installing it both ways and seeing if there is a difference and end up just leave it in which ever way I last tired.
