rotor position

I have a 59 F100 Panel with a 292. I am reinstalling the distributor and need to know the position of the rotor at tdc.

So, I followed the advice lining up the distributor and still no fire. It doesn't sound like it even wants to fire. Should I do a compression check on all the cylinders to make sure I have compression?
