Before I tackle a distribuotor cap and rotor change on my '89 3.0, are there any tricks to accessing these parts? It looks a little tight, so I don't want to walk into a spark plug like nightmare.
Not as bad as you think..... It is a little tight in the back, but going thru the access panel "aint that bad". Of course I am assuming the distributor is on the rear of the engine like my '93 3.0....
Rotor is a piece of "cake", pull off old rotor, replace with the new one. The rotors are keyed, so they only go back one way. When I did the cap, I marked #1 on the new cap, And then found #1 on old cap. After that it was just a 1 to 1 wire replacement.
I had a harder time getting the access panel locked back in than I did with the cap replacement!
Just take your time, you shouldn't have any problems.
