As I recall, the switch just screws back outwards to the left until free from the jamb, then pull it out a short ways and there's the wires. I believe the wires plug into the back of the button switch.
Are they not just push on connectors? I know that once you get the elec connection figured out and then put it back in the hole and lock it in place with the nut. And the 1st time you close the door the switch will sort of like self set to the depth needed.
That's the part I'm struggling with....how to connect the wires to the new switch. Does the white part detach from the switch?? I'm afraid to pull too hard for fear of breaking it. The white part that is attached to the wires is what's left of the original switch...I'm sure those will just get cut.
Seeing your post from an iPhone, it looks like you still have a piece of the old switch broken off in the plug? Remove whatever metal is stuck in the plug, and it should go onto the new switch.

Ok..I'll try that. Hopefully it will be plug n play. Thanks!
I got it figured out. I pulled the old one apart and realized it had a plug so all I had to do was plug it into the new switch. Silly me...I was over thinking it. I cut the wires then realized it will plug into the new switch...so cutting the wires wasn't necessary. Had to solder them back together.
