I need to find paint for my truck and am having trouble!
Perhaps I am being foolish but it appears that there is no paint code for my truck, at least as I understand it it should be right after "External Paint Colors"
I tried to eyeball paint codes for the 1982 model year and ended up purchasing a paint that does not match. I figured there wouldn't be that big a margin of error on what seems to be School Bus Yellow... (Hubris)
Does anyone know why this is the case? Any ideas on how to get paint?
Is it possible that my truck was likely a fleet vehicle, and therefore has a custom paint? If true I suspect this is why previous owners did bodywork and never painted over the primer.

Being no code(s) and the color I am seeing, not a Ford normal truck color, I would say fleet truck.
Only option you have is take the truck to a auto paint supplier and see if he can match it.
I take it you dont have any paper work what fleet had it?

This doesn't help with your paint color issue, but from what I have read a six digit DSO code is a special order code with the first two digits being the DSO region (74= Seattle) and the remaining 4 digits being the sales order number.
Supposedly, a special order vehicle doesn't need to have special equipment added, it could also be for a deviation from standard vehicle equipment. A special color may require this.
I would look way up under the dash to see if any color is there because most people who repaint in a different color different from the manufacturer will never paint the underside of dash area. That may give you clues.
and Ford did offer several yellows for trucks in 1982:
code 6S = Chrome yellow - M1526 /PPG 81353
code 61 = medium yellow - M5791 / PPG 3488
Being there is yellow under the door sticker and I dont think any one would peel the factory sticker off and get a replacement after repaint.
That is a good point but I have seen these removed and reattached before.

But we don't know for certain, do we?
Even the most fluent in mechanical aptitude as demonstrated here on the forums are often totally clueless when it comes to paint codes and the names they attach to them. Only the OP knows what specific paint has been used in the attempt to match.
Different brands of the exact same paint formula tend to look different too as does single stage paints when compared to 2 stage paints not to mention the difference between the enamels used during the time compared to today's urethanes
I have tried 61 Medium Yellow, but am fairly sure (although not certain) it's not 6S Chrome yellow.
I am almost absolutely certain it is the original paint given that it is under the dash and door panels and such.
I think my truck may have been owned by the Kiewit Construction Company as it notably has a black hood (which I first explained as a mismatched replacement), which their fleet vehicles also share. It was also bone stock except for an automatic transmission. No AC, no Headliner, 2wd, etc. (2wd with an automatic would be a pretty surprising choice in Interior AK, but less surprising if it was a fleet vehicle)
It's not Chrome Yellow for sure (as you already know). If the construction company is still in business, may you could ask them what color they ask for when they have trucks built/painted? I'm thinking a good auto body shop or auto paint supplier would be able to match that color. I'm sure the sun has faded it some so even if you do get the right color code, it may still not be a good match.

CHROME YELLOW - 6S
Not sure how you can be certain that a digital photo of a 42 year old faded and dirty paint is not 6s, but yes, the best solution would be to have a paint supplier match the paint.
Also, Kiewit is still in business, they are (or were at one time) the largest industrial contractor in the US.
In fact, they have an equipment storage yard in Woodinville WA and have a phone number listed for it so maybe a phone call there may help but nonetheless, after 42 years even if you have the info would it even be accurate? Not so sure.
Also note that this yellow was used in several fleets as noted at bottom of listing.
Good luck on the match, and disregard the name of the color. That is what everyone gets there panties in a wad over because " "chrome yellow" doesn't look like that...."
Use the Ford or PPG number and you will be much more accurate.
