BD Up Pipes

Getting ready to finally install these in the next few weeks.

There is so much out there about wrap or don't wrap etc etc.

What is the general consensus with wrapping these in good quality Titanium wrap?

I have an email into BD waiting for their take on wrapping. I will share it once they respond.

Thank you

I wrapped mine because I had the wrap from my motorcycle days.

Thanks for the reply. How many linear feet do you think you used if I do order the wrap and how wide of a wrap?

I read about rust being a major issue, but living in a primarily dry climate with little to no impactful snow fall I really can't see that as a factor for me.

I am sure they'll come back with a warranty void if wrapped, but we shall see.

Thank you
Joe

It was part of the video and images I lost from my hard drive issue, so not much of it.

Excellent thank you.

That was my next question, if you had wrapped the flex section....question answered.

I bought a nice quality turbo blanket years ago and made an attempt to install it without removal of the turbo. NO way it was going to happen, finally get a chance to install that as well.

Hopefully it all makes a positive impact on under hood temps. I could care less about performance changes but I understand it does help with exhaust heat retention, that equates to better turbo spooling.

So far so good on my heat wrap. I used this stuff from Autozone. I think @bismic had commented on my “It all starts with a flush” thread about eliminating the heat shields when he wrapped his up pipes. I followed his lead and didn’t put mine back in either. That really makes for a much easier install when putting everything back together. I also wrapped my down pipe to the elbow below the fire wall. I used a 15’ roll and had a little left over. I did have to buy an extra bag of the stainless holding ties.

Bayliner,

I am contemplating doing the same, but there are so many differing opinions regarding the turbo down pipe.

Have you noticed any ill effects?
EGT cool down take longer?
Rubbing due to the close tolerances?

Any positives?

Thank you

I honestly haven’t noticed either way. EGT cool down is almost instantaneous, but that may be because I have KC’s 11 blade instead of stock. I had so much of the pipe wrap left over that I just did the down pipe. I really wasn’t planning on it, but I had it so why not. I have the MBRP 4” kit which is 3-1/2” diameter from the turbo outlet to the first bend. The wrap still clears fine. There definitely isn’t much wiggle room, but I’m not rubbing anywhere either. I haven’t really noticed my IAT any higher or lower than it was before.

I wish I had more scientific data for you, but I don’t. I can say I’m not experiencing any ill effects of the wrap. I haven’t noticed any positives either for that matter. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks for the info. I will definitely do the up pipes and collector (if cleanly possible), but the turbo downpipe will be decided then. The only hassle with the downpipe is removal and reinstall.

I have the Banks system that uses the 3.5" pipe.

I'm not sure I would have done that if I didn't have the wrap lying around. I haven't screwed with my motorcycle for about a dozen years.

Currently have the bottom half of up pipes wrapped as well as the egr delete pipe and will be wrapping the upper half of up pipes as well as exhaust downpipe here in a bit.

Wrap currently in place is holding up just fine and i can't see any downside in reducing engine bay temps.

The BD pipe setup does not have any heat shields. I'd like to protect surrounding components and the wrap seems like it is a good choice. I don't want to hassle with trying to move the OEM heat shields onto the new pipe setup.
Main reason for all this is to completely redo my return lines and properly wrap them, and reroute both in a titanium sheath and some thermal sleeves I've had laying around a couple years.

I noticed a small exhaust soot leak that appears to be getting worse over time, If I had to guess one of the OEM bellows is cracked. I don't have any exhaust in the cab, but I do not want to get to that point.

Curious why you think there would be any issues adding heat wrap to your exhaust system?
