Does anyone have part numbers for water pumps on a 1968 330hd and a 1978 391xd?
The 330 pump I cant seem to find for less than $500 as this model has the pulley mounted to the shaft.
The 391 pump looks like it might be just a standard 390 car/truck pump, it does have the dual thermostats but that also appears to be just a bolt on piece where a standard thermostat housing would bolt on.
Another question... can I swap the timing cover from the 391 onto the 330 so I can use the more readily available (appears to be more readily available) 391 water pump?
the 391 also uses a fan clutch where the 330 was solid mounted,
Post a photo of the 391 from the front at an angle so we can see more of the engine
A 330 HD and 391 should have the same timing cover and similar water pumps unless one has the high fan mount water pump
330 MD engine was the only one that used a FE style water pump
That is a 391 hd water pump for the dual thermostat housing, it has a larger hose nipple for the bypass return than one for a standard thermostat
This pumps are nothing like the ones for a car or pickup
The 391 pump should bolt to the 330 cover provided it also has dual thermostats, but I’m not sure about belt alignment
They make a water pump with the small return nipple and also a conversion pump to switch from cast pulley to steel
Precision Rebuilders list several pumps for FT engines
As for changing front covers all 361/391 FT’s had 1 3/4” crank snouts
330 had both 1 3/8” and 1 3/4” so you’ll have to see which one you have
Normally 330 MD was 1 3/8 and 330 HD/XT were 1 3/4, but I’ve heard of timing covers that what take either size seal
Just by looking at it, I can go away from the dual thermostat setup as it just appears to bolt into place of where a traditional style thermostat housing bolts on.
