Speed Sensor
01’ 7.3 2wd- OD light on gear selector flashes intermittently then transmission shifts hard. Changed speed sensor 3x now over last 2 years and that has fixed shifting issues. OD light flashing/hard shift keeps occurring. Any wisdom on this?

Scan for other transmission-related codes. The transmission also has TSS and OSS sensors that can go bad. Sometimes a failing alternator sending AC ripples through the electrical system can also cause issues.

There are about 50 different reasons that the OD light can flash. Is yours flashing because of this speed sensor, or one of the 49 other reasons it could be flashing? Read the codes to find out. Changing parts without knowing what's wrong is almost always a waste of money.

Don't go to a parts store. They can't read Ford transmission codes.
Get Forscan free at www.forscan.org. Their page shows how to select an OBDII adapter. I bought mine from Amazon for about $30. Or you could pay a good independent shop or a Ford dealer to read them.
