Hey, newbie here. My 59 f100 has a T98 4 speed. When the car is off it shifts fine but going down the road 3rd and 4th gears are hard to find...lots of grinding. I have put in a new clutch master and slave cylinder. Is this grinding mean I need a new clutch or new shift linkage or both? Not sure how old each part is but the engine is a 1963 223 and it may be the original clutch.
I would also check the lube / oil level in the transmission.
I am guessing it would take 75-w90 gear oil.
I have found draining the old oil and refilling with Red Line M-90 my NP435 shifts a lot easier.
Now the NP435 transmission was bought used to replace a vary worn T18.
This replacement is a little hard going up and down into 3rd gear.
It was better with the M-90 lube but still can feel it grind a little.
I just double clutch when going up or down into 3rd makes it a little better and been this way for 28K miles.
I just dont force it into gear. If it dose not go in I double clutch again and that dose the trick.
I know my clutch assy. is good, 28K on it but may need to adjust it a little.
