i recently bought a 1983 F-250 6.9 idi, 4x4 4 speed manual, havent really had any issues but i noticed today that when im idling at a stop i can hear a squeaking sound, i thought it was the belt as it would go away after accelerating, but it wasnt the belts and sounds like its coming from under the truck somewhere, idk what it is and was hoping for some advice, thanks!
Does it sound like a metal on metal squeak or a belt squeal as you were theorizing? Could be your suspension settling while you're stopped? I know mine makes some weird creaking noises when it goes over uneven terrain and I'm pretty sure it's my front coil springs.

it’s like a belt squeak, i don’t believe it’s suspension related, i let it sit for about 10min idling and came back out and was still squeaking so i’m not sure
Yeah that definitely sounds more like a belt issue. Trying to think what else could be making a squeal/squeak rather than a scraping noise. Do you have AC? Might be the other belt? Could be a bearing maybe...? My truck has 2 on the alternator and 1 on the power steering.

yes i do have ac but it does not currently work, possibly a transfer case bearing from what i was reading but i went and started it and isn’t making noise antmore so i’m not sure
If you think it's belt-related (coming from the front of the engine), it could be the water pump bearing and/or the fan clutch (if you have one). Alternator maybe? Power Steering pump?
