F250 Overdrive light flashing
I'm having an issue with my 2002 F250 5.4L.
issue: O/D light flashes after what feels like a very hard shift from 2-3 and 3-4.
The manual says that this is a transmission issue and should be checked out by ford service dept.
this has only happened three times and first started after switching OD off while going down a hill with about an 8200 lb camper in tow. Turning the truck off and back on got the light to stop flashing and we had no issues and we finished an hour and half tow with no problems.
The light flashing occurred again near the end and after the next two towing trips along with seemingly hard or delayed shifts.
There have been several times since then when the truck has seemed to shift hard or jerked while driving but the OD light did not flash. The lack of the light flashing makes me believe this could be misfires. But I also wonder if I’ve overloaded the truck towing capacity and caused damage to the transmission.
My plan was to take it to a transmission shop but I wanted to see what other more experienced truck owners thought (first truck and first times towing). Thanks for any advice given.
To fix this you need to read the codes. The transmission shop should be able to do that. You could also download Forscan free at www.forscan.org and read them yourself. Their page shows how to select an adapter to plug into the OBDII port under your dash. I bought mine from Amazon for about $30.
