I’m running into an issue with my alternator I can’t seem to find it at any part stores in my area. The main problem seems to be that the truck run a v rib instead of a serpentine belt we also can’t read the number on the alternator. Idk where to even look I’ve spent hours trying to find this alternator and can’t seem to find anything either it has the right pulley but the wire is in the wrong place or vice versa. The engine is 7.3l ohv out of a 1992 ford f250
early 92 had V belts, late year 92 switched to serpentine belt.
so you need an alternator for an early 92, or make it easier and ask for a 91 alternator. that should get you the proper one.
Maybe just brushes and/or bearings anyway. Cheap and easy to replace. Diodes are a little trickier. If you open it up and brushes are worn down it'll be obvious. Little hole in back of alternator you stick paperclip in to hold brushes back out of the way when you reassemble it.....
Just be very careful brush leads and their terminals are positioned exactly as designed. Take pics as you disassembe it.
Spin it and listen/feel bearings before you disassemble it as well.
You can spin it with a drill in the proper (clockwise) direction. Hook F terminal to big + terminal and hook various 12volt loads to it such as an old headlamp, and you should get almost 14v out of it. The bigger the load, the more torque will be required of the drill. If the bearings sound dry, but not grinding or any play, you can carefully pop seal off with large veterinary needle or extremely tiny screwdriver at outer edge and put some lithium based grease in there. Do not be tempted to pry on seal at shaft hole and be 100% sure you've got seal properly popped back in.
