I'm installing a harness into my 1966 F100. What kind of oil sensor is compatible with the oil warning light on the dash? It must be something that sends 12V to the bulb on the dash.
Searching the web for the part. It seems the only ones I can find are those that work with a gauge. I need one that's a switch that turns on a light. I think it would have to have two terminals on it because it would have to pass 12V to the dash bulb when activated.
The only place you need to be searching is a parts house website. Standard PS10, button connector, Standard PS149 stud connector, good luck with that GM wire color painless stuff.
I should have mentioned my F100 has a 351W in it, so I assume the OP switch needs to be compatible with that. What I'm not sure of is how to utilize an OP switch that only has one post. The post is going to go to ground on activation, but the light on the dash requires 12V. Relay?
All the oil pressure switches work the same way at around 5 psi it makes contact to ground. The dash light socket is plastic with two wires one from the ignition switch and one to the oil switch. Oil pressure drops switch makes contact; light comes on. If you want a little more piece of mind there are oil switches made for high dollar race engines that will turn the light on at higher pressures.
OK, that cracks the code for me. I was in dummy mode and didn't notice that two of the sockets are plastic. I noticed the two wires, but thought they were for daisy chaining the instrument lighting. Thanks so much!
