I have a 22 f250 lariat with 36k miles on it and two of the tires (clearly the ones that spent the most time on the front) are badly worn on the shoulder with some chunks here and there (obviously need an alignment). The other two prob have half or a little less tread. My thought is to grab one new continental and then swap my spare for the other. Then I could have the new ones on front with the other two originals on the back. Any issues with that? I've heard it could mess up gearing?!?! Any truth? Just need to get by for a little longer before buying 4 new tires.
As long as the tires are the same size and the spare is not that old. It would be fine.
Thanks! Ended up ordering a cheap-o tire from discount and will use that and the swapped spare for the rest of the summer and then swap this cheap-o tire back to the spare when I get a full new set. This will help me feel more confident on a 2k mile trip w the fam.
