Taillight brackets

Where do 53 f100 stainlesstaillight brackets mount on 53-54 f100? Do they bolt on the backside of the stake pocket using the hinge bolts? Or do they use the top bolt and there should be another hole above that? Pictures please

They go on the fender side of the stake pocket using the hinge bolts. They can be mounted in the upper hole and top hinge bolt, but that puts the license plate too high.

I believe the factory original way was like the 51/52 trucks. See pics below. I just think hardly any Effie guys do it that way as they’re mostly hot rods. I even have an original 53-55 Tail light Bracket right side for sale.

If you notice, the brackets for the F-100s through F-350s are flat and ambidextrous. They don't have the offset to clear the tailgate hinge.

Pappy, I honestly don't know what the third hole is for. I don't remember my original bed having them. I see a lot of other trucks that look original that don't have them.

Here’s an original 53-55 tail light bracket. If anyone wants this make me an offer. I only have one. They shared one top hole of the hinge. The third and higher hole was the top hole for the bracket. You can see this offset in the back of the brackets casting.

that most definitely is not correct for a 55. 55 was the start of the shield taillights and are too large to fit on the smaller brackets

And I don't think it is correct for 53-54 trucks either. I can't be sure since my pretty much stock 54 didn't have them when I bought it.

Here is how my Grandpa had the tail lights mounted. I don't know when this was fabbed up or who did it. But the thick steel did protect the lights from damage and the steel around the bed kept the bedsides from splaying out.

If you look up the part number that’s on stamped should be for a 53/56 truck. Point being , those were why they had the third hole for these tail lights brackets.
