Brake rotor thickness?

Will be doing some brake stuff this weekend and want to check my current rotor thickness as well and hoping someone knows the minimum thickness on a 2006 F250?

Also if rotor thickness is good all around and no gouging would it be ok to go from semi metallic pads to ceramic on current rotors or should they be replaced as well?

Thanks 🙂

By law, the minimum thickness is always identified on the rotor.

Rotors can be reused, it will just take a little longer for the new material to bed to the rotor.

What I have in my notes:

Is there any benefit to sanding the rotors a bit before new pads go on? Thank you btw 🙂

You can do that as long as you don't go wild. A Scotbrite type of wheel can work, but not aggressively.

Three things happen when breaking in new pads and rotors. The finish of the rotor wears in the friction material to a flat surface, the finish of the friction material wears the rotor surface flat, and then a transfer layer of rotor material builds on the rotor surface. At that point, you have ideal friction.

Most aftermarket material finishes on the pads and rotors are rougher than stock, so it takes longer to flatten out both surfaces. The rougher friction material surfaces also wear off the transfer layer.

You can feel a pulsation in the brake pedal when the rotor surface is out of parallel 0.0008".
